Sustainable Packaging – Open Innovation

The Packaging Arena and WDO Innovation recently launched a Sustainable Packaging competition ( in Swedish). The competition is already open, and ideas will be screened throughout June. The winning concept will go through a refinement process, and finally be presented to the jury. The companies in the jury are Smurfit Kappa Sverige, BillerudKorsnäs, Stora Enso, DS Smith Packaging Sweden och Nordic Paper. All members of The Packaging Arena.

Korsnäs Design Contest


PIDA, a prestigious packaging design competition that Korsnäs runs in partnerships with universities in France, Germany and Sweden.

The winner of PIDA Sweden 2011 is: BAS/the daily bread – flour, seeds, baking seasoning and recipes. Simple, gently loaf-shaped packaging containing the right amount of the various ingredients of the attached baking recipe. The Brief was to Create a promotion package of Korsnäs Material. The concept should incorporate a futuristic view trying to imagine what a promotion packaging can look like in the near future (5 – 10 years) See more here

Packaging Design Competition

Mondi Tire Kutsan invites undergraduate creative students to Kutu Kutu Project Design Competition with a concept of ‘Shelf Ready Packaging’. The aim is to combine design & innovation with corrugated packaging, identifying new, aesthetic, functional and environmentally friendly ideas to our daily lives.

Undergraduate students at the Universities of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus can apply to this competition until April 12th, 2011. The winner will be awarded a Design Culture and Management certificate program in İstanbul Bilgi University. The second winner will be awarded a Mac Book, and the third winner will be awarded an I Pad. These three winners will as well have the possibility to have an internship in Mondi Tire Kutsan’s plants. Green Competition

The theme of design for iida 2009 is Green Design and Daily Life. They invite green design imagination that embodies harmonious co-existence of humans and nature. ”A green design should imply aesthetic, ethical, social and economic effects” So submit your green and great ideas before August 25th!

Disposable Mug

Design to improve life! A contribution to the Index Award in connection to Copenhagen Design Week later this year. Here the description of this disposable mug concept; ”In India, people prefer water to toilet paper and use plastic cups and empty bottles to hold water. This foldable mug is meant for washing after using the public lavatories in train compartments. It is inexpensive, holds 1.2 liters of water, and disintegrates within 15 minutes after use, solving problems concerning price-sensitive consumers, hygiene maintenance, and waste disposal.” Designed by Paul Sandip

Packaging Design Competition

This is one of the rewarded packages in 2008 Pentawards. Now it’s time to sign up for this year’s edition. Pentawards is a worldwide competition exclusively devoted to packaging design in all its forms. It is open to everybody in all countries who are associated with the creation and marketing of packaging. The winners will receive bronze, silver, gold, platinum or diamond Pentawards according to the creative quality of their work.
